The Other Side of Auburn

Izzy’s may be History, but 160 Club Prevails
Tuesday, 07 August 2007

I have seen “The Other Side of Auburn,” and it is the 160 Club, a venerable honky-tonk, watering hole and good-time emporium where I made my first memorable visit a few Saturdays ago. Click here for full story>

Downtown is Big Winner in Streetscape Sweepstakes

Beauty truly is in the eye of the beholder, but in Auburn, what is beautiful to one person is blighted to another. Just ask Earl Eisley.

Two years ago, Old Town suffered the first of two major setbacks when the Shanghai Restaurant and Bar shuttered its doors after a century as a favorite beer and booze haunt for locals and tourists alike. Then in October of 2005, this community was knocked back on its heels when a massive blaze devastated a full block of the historic district. More than 70 people lost their jobs and with many small, nearby businesses already suffering, it was clear we had hit bottom. Click here for full story>
